The Best Hotels in Skyros are mostly located in or around Skyros main town (also called Chora). Skyros (or Skiros) is one of the most underrated Greek islands with the best all-inclusive hotels, as it’s been heavily developed since the 70’s. The island has seen a slower (which is always better) but steady development of new and very well-designed hotels in the last decade that makes ideal for people and families who want a quiet Greek island that has so much to offer.

Skyros belongs to the Sporades group of islands in central Greece, and it is literally located in the centre of Greece’s map in the Aegean Sea. Skyros is the largest island in the Sporades group of Greek islands and it’s also the burial place of famous English poet Rupert Brooke.

Skyros island is not that far from Athens but it’s not that easy and straight forward to reach it through a ferry as you have to drive (or take a bus) to Kymi port in east Evia island. However, the best thing to do is to take a direct flight from Athens, since Skyros has a small (but not international) airport. There are many flights per week between May and October in the summer (always check Ferryhopper for the latest ferry schedules and Booking.com Flights for the most up-to-date flights to Greek islands).

You definitely need a car in Skyros, as it’s a pretty big island with lots of areas to see and explore. There are local buses, but you’ll obviously be more flexible if you rent a car, in my opinion.
