Amorgos is a relatively small Cycladic island and you shouldn’t expect huge resorts with water slides, multiple restaurants and hectic nightlife. Most places to stay are low-rise, family-run guesthouses, boutique hotels and simple studios that lean into the “Big Blue” feeling the island is famous for.

In the guide below I focus on small properties that give you great views, easy access to the sea and solid value for money. Every place is bookable on Booking.com using the links below, and I highlight who each hotel suits best so you can match it to your own style of trip.

Where to Stay in Amorgos: Quick Area Guide
Most hotels and apartments on Amorgos are grouped in just a few pockets. Picking the area that matches how you like to travel will make your hotel choice much easier.
Aegiali (Aegialis) & Levrossos – best without a car
The north of the island around Aegiali Bay is the easiest place to stay if you want everything within walking distance. You get a sandy beach, plenty of tavernas and bars, a small port and regular buses up to Chora and the famous Hozoviotissa Monastery. Most of the hotels below are here, and it works well for families, first-time visitors and anyone who prefers to skip driving.
Agios Pavlos & Nikouria – quiet beach setting
Ten minutes’ drive west of Aegiali, Agios Pavlos is a tiny settlement wrapped around a pebbly beach facing uninhabited Nikouria island. Staying here is all about lazy days by the water, sunset views and a couple of tavernas; you will want a car or scooter, but in return you get proper peace and stargazing at night.
Katapola – best for ferry connections
Katapola is the main ferry port in the centre of Amorgos. It is not as picture-perfect as Aegiali but it is practical, with small beaches, supermarkets and tavernas around the bay. If you are island-hopping or prefer to minimise transfers with luggage, basing yourself above Katapola works very well.
Chora & Tholaria – traditional villages and views
Chora (Amorgos Town) and the hill village of Tholaria sit above the sea, all white alleyways, churches and windmills. You do not get direct beach access, but you do get cooler evenings, a local feel and huge views over the Aegean. Choose these villages if you like quiet nights, long dinners in small squares and access to hiking trails.
Best Hotels in Amorgos
So without further ado, here are the best hotels and apartments to stay in on Amorgos Island. I focus on properties that combine great locations with strong reviews and an authentic, low-key feel.
Because Amorgos has far fewer beds than islands like Naxos or Paros, the better rooms at these hotels often sell out months ahead for July, August and early September. If your dates are fixed, try to book as early as you reasonably can.
1. Aegialis Hotel & Spa
Address: Periferiakos Aegialis-Tholarion, Lagada 840 08, Greece
Aegialis Hotel & Spa is the flagship hotel of Amorgos and the one you have probably seen in photos. The whitewashed complex sits on the hillside above Aegiali Bay, with wide views over the sea, the surrounding mountains and little Nikouria island.
It is also one of the few places on the island with a full set of resort-style facilities: a large sea-water pool, several bars and restaurants and the excellent Lalon Idor Spa with an indoor pool, sauna, hammam and gym. Rooms and suites all face the water, many with private terraces and outdoor hot tubs. The hotel often hosts yoga and wellness retreats and runs a shuttle down to Aegiali beach and port, so you can manage without a car if you want to.

2. Vigla Hotel
Address: Tholaria 840 08, Greece
Vigla Hotel sits in the little village of Tholaria, high above Aegiali Bay. From the pool and restaurant terrace you look straight over the sea, the mountains and the neighbouring village of Langada, so sunsets and evening light are spectacular.
Because it is above the bay rather than right on the beach, Vigla feels calm even in August. There is a big pool with a children’s section, an excellent home-cooked breakfast and a restaurant that locals actually use. Hiking trails to the surrounding villages start almost at the door, so it is a brilliant base if you want to combine swimming with walks. You will want a rental car or scooter though, as the drive down to Aegiali port and beach takes around ten minutes.

3. Aquapetra Hotel
Address: Αγ. Παύλος 840 08, Greece
Aquapetra Hotel is set just above Agios Pavlos beach, between Aegiali and Katapola, looking straight out to Nikouria island. It is a small, low-key complex of rooms and apartments, all laid out around a saltwater pool, gardens and quiet corners with loungers.
You can walk down to the beach in a couple of minutes for a swim, grab a bite at the seafront tavernas and then retreat back to the pool for sunset drinks. Family apartments and junior suites give plenty of space, so Aquapetra works very well for families or groups who want a peaceful base by the water rather than being in the middle of a village.

4. Amorgion Hotel
Address: Ag. Irine, 84008, Ag. Irini, Amorgos(Katapola) – Santorini(Thira), Katapola 840 08, Greece
Amorgion Hotel (also known as Amorgion Village) is built on a hill just outside Katapola, surrounded by olive trees and gardens. From the pool terrace you get wide views over the bay, the port and the hills behind.
Rooms and studios come with kitchenettes, so it is easy to prepare simple breakfasts or snacks, and there is a generous pool with sun loungers for lazy afternoons between ferries or hikes. The walk down to Katapola harbour takes about 10–15 minutes, so this is a good choice if you like the idea of being close to the port but not right on the waterfront road.

5. Lakki Village Hotel
Address: ΠΑΡΑΛΙΑ ΑΙΓΙΑΛΗΣ, Lagada 840 08, Greece
Lakki Village is one of the classic family-run hotels of Aegiali. It spreads along the beachfront in a series of low Cycladic houses wrapped in bougainvillea, with a big garden and a good-sized pool only a few steps from the sand.
Accommodation ranges from simple rooms to studios and apartments with kitchenettes, which is ideal if you are travelling with kids or friends and want more space. You can roll out of bed and onto the beach, wander to tavernas in Aegiali village in a few minutes and still have a quiet place to retreat to at night.

6. Soil Amorgos Hotel
Address: Κατάπολα 840 08, Greece
Soil Amorgos is a newer, design-led option in Katapola, bringing city-boutique style to the island. Suites and apartments are spacious and minimal, with clean lines, natural tones and large windows framing the bay.
The property sits a short walk from Kato Akrotiri Beach and the port, so you can arrive off the ferry and be in your room quickly, yet it feels tucked away thanks to the garden and terraces. Expect excellent mattresses, modern bathrooms and touches like Nespresso machines and a very generous minibar – more “boutique hotel” comfort, just transplanted to Amorgos.

7. Aegean of Amorgos
Address: Κατάπολα 840 08, Greece
Aegean of Amorgos is a small traditional complex a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Katapola and the seafront. Rooms and studios are decorated in classic white-and-blue Cycladic style, many with balconies that look towards the harbour.
Breakfast is usually served in your room or on your balcony, which feels very relaxed compared with a large hotel buffet. With just a short walk to the nearest beach and tavernas, this is a cosy choice for couples or solo travellers who want a simple, well-run base near the port.

8. Amorgos Delight
Address: Αγ Παυλος, 0, Amorgos 840 08, Greece
Amorgos Delight sits on the hillside above Aegiali, with views over the valley, the bay and the mountains. The studios and suites are modern and bright, with kitchenettes and private balconies or terraces.
It is a good compromise if you want to be close to Aegiali but not right in the bustle of the waterfront. You can drive or taxi down to the beach in a few minutes, then retreat to your balcony for quiet evenings and big skies. Families and longer-stay guests appreciate the extra space and private parking.

9. Yperia Hotel
Address: Ormos Egialis 840 08, Greece
Yperia Hotel is a small, stylish hotel just above the port of Aegiali, a few minutes’ walk from the beach, bus stop and most tavernas. From many rooms and from the pool you can look straight across the bay to the hills.
Rooms are traditionally styled but comfortable, with balconies or terraces and good soundproofing. There is a seasonal outdoor pool, a poolside bar and a generous breakfast that sets you up for the day. Because everything in Aegiali is so close, Yperia is an excellent car-free option.

10. Plori Studios & Apartments
Address: Tholaria, Amorgos 840 08, Greece
Plori Studios & Apartments are in the upper part of Tholaria village, one of the prettiest traditional settlements on Amorgos. The self-catering studios and apartments are spacious, with whitewashed walls, hand-painted floors and big verandas looking over Aegiali Bay.
Staying here feels more like renting a local home than booking a hotel. You are a short drive from Aegiali beach but you can walk to village tavernas in a couple of minutes, and the trail network around Tholaria and Langada starts almost outside the door. It is a great choice for walkers, longer stays and travellers who want quiet evenings in a real village.

VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW ABOUT AMORGOS
- Best Area to Stay in Amorgos: Aegialis Beach is my favourite area to stay in Amorgos because you get a long sandy beach, the biggest concentration of hotels and some of the best tavernas and bars on the island. In summer there are also regular buses up to Chora and the monastery. See hotels in Aegiali Beach.
- Best Hotel in Amorgos: Aegialis Hotel & Spa if you want resort-style facilities, a serious spa and huge sea views.
- Best Villa in Amorgos: Chora Elegant House – a traditional house in the heart of Chora, perfect if you want your own space and a base for exploring the island by car.
- How many days do you need in Amorgos? Amorgos is famous for its relaxing atmosphere and slow pace of life. Ferries are not as frequent as on bigger islands and the bus schedule is limited, so you do not want to rush your stay. I highly recommend spending at least five days in Amorgos so you can enjoy beaches, a couple of hikes and a visit to the monastery and Chora without feeling pressed for time.
- How to Move Around in Amorgos: I highly recommend renting a car. The local bus in Amorgos runs only a few times a day between the main towns and is not very reliable, especially outside July and August. If you stay in Aegiali or Katapola you can manage with buses and taxis for a few days, but a car or scooter gives you access to the best beaches and viewpoints.
- How to Get From Athens to Amorgos: The best way to get from Athens to Amorgos is by taking a fast ferry from Piraeus, which takes around five hours depending on the route and stops. There is no airport or flights to the island, which keeps Amorgos quieter than many other Greek islands – just make sure you book your ferry in advance in high season.
FAQ
When is the best time to visit Amorgos?
Is Amorgos a good island without a car?
If you stay in Aegiali or Katapola you can technically get by without a car, as both have beaches, tavernas and basic shops within walking distance plus a bus stop. That said, public transport is limited, so I normally suggest renting a car or scooter for at least a couple of days so you can reach Agios Pavlos, some quieter coves and the start of the best hiking trails.
Which area is best if I am travelling with children?
Aegiali is usually the easiest base with kids. You have a sandy beach, plenty of places to eat and the shortest transfer to most of the hotels on this list. Lakki Village and Aegialis Hotel & Spa are the most family-friendly, while Aquapetra works well for older kids who are happy with a quieter beach setting.
Can I combine Amorgos with other Greek islands?
Yes. Amorgos is usually combined with Naxos, the Small Cyclades (Koufonisia, Donoussa, Schinoussa, Iraklia) or Santorini, depending on the ferry route you choose. Most people either sail directly from Athens (Piraeus) to Amorgos and then hop onwards, or visit Amorgos after a stay on Naxos or Santorini. Check current timetables and book early for July and August, especially if you are travelling with a car.
