Greek islands are considered some of the most romantic destinations in the world, and it’s not just a coincidence that they are some of the most sought-after honeymoon destinations every year.
When it comes to a memorable honeymoon, a special anniversary, or an incredible week in paradise with the one you love, Greece provides all the ingredients you need.If you are over 60, though, you should take a look at my recommendations for the Best Greek Islands for Older Couples. I have visited most of Greece with my other half, and I know for sure the best Greek islands for couples.
The best Greek island for couples is Santorini, with its mesmerizing sunsets, the incredible hotels overlooking the Aegean Sea, and the unique wineries that can create one of the most romantic atmospheres in the world.
BEST COUPLES HOTEL IN SANTORINI: Grace Santorini HotelI believe there are certain things you might be looking for in a couple’s holiday, and staying in awesome hotels, being close to beautiful beaches, and romantic restaurants with stunning views, while being able to do lots of things with your other half, are probably some of the most important things.
Some Greek islands are better to be avoided, to be honest (yes, Mykonos is one of them unless partying and paying exorbitant prices anywhere is your thing as a couple), so keep reading to decide what’s best for you. ❤️

1. Santorini

- Santorini on Google Maps
- Best Couples Hotels in Santorini: Maregio Suites • Grace Santorini • Cosmopolitan Suites
- Best things to do for couples in Santorini:Sunset Volcano Cruise • Wine Tasting Tour • Kamari Open Air Cinema
Santorini island is, without a doubt, the most romantic Greek island, and there are many good reasons for that. The island has unparalleled views of a live volcano, and most of its hotels in Fira (the capital town) and Oia (the cutest town) have romantic balconies with stunning views.
The same applies to some of the best restaurants on the island. Similarly, Santorini has numerous things to do for couples, from wine tasting tours, prehistoric ruins sites, sunset cruises, cute bookshops, lovely beaches, and it’s such a diverse island that it won’t let you get bored. Santorini is the perfect Greek island for couples, hands down.

2. Crete

- Crete on Google Maps
- Best Couples Hotels in Crete: Domes Noruz • Creta Maris Beach Resort • Caramel Grecotel
- Best Things to Do for Couples in Crete: Balos Cruise • Knossos Palace • Samaria Gorge Hike
Crete is the largest Greek island (the size of Hawaii’s Big Island!) and it’s an ideal island for couples who feel more adventurous. First of all, Crete probably has the best food in Greece, with some of the best restaurants in the country. Secondly, Crete has some of the largest and most well-established hotels in Europe as it’s been a famous holiday destination since the 1800s.
Above all, though, Crete has one of the cutest towns in Greece: Chania, which is ideal for endless walks and romantic dinners in picturesque alleys. Crete also has numerous activities and places to explore, such as the famous Knossos archaeological site, the incredible Samaria gorge, and the massive sandy beaches.

3. Milos

- Milos on Google Maps
- Best Couples Hotels in Milos:Cave Suites • White Coast Pool Suites • Zen Suites
- Best Things to Do for Couples in Milos: Sailing Cruise • Sarakiniko beach
Milos is a laid-back island, pretty close to Santorini, with very limited tourism in general, as it’s not as famous as the other islands. Milos island has one of the most beautiful and diverse landscapes of all Greek islands, and it’s a relatively medium-sized island.
Milos has fantastic beaches and turquoise sea waters, but it’s not attracting that many tourists. That’s a good thing! Milos has one of the best cruises you can do to any Greek island because it offers fabulous views of the impressive volcanic landscape that surrounds the island. We Greeks call Milos a “lover’s island,” and we pretty much keep this secret locally.

4. Naxos

- Naxos on Google Maps
- Best Couples Hotels in Naxos: Belogna Ikons • Naxian Utopia • Nissaki Beach Hotel
Naxos is one of the biggest Greek islands, and in my opinion, it is perfect for couples. Naxos boasts some of the nicest beaches in Greece, with beautiful sand and shallow waters that are usually warm and inviting. Naxos overall ticks all the boxes, and it’s also a foodie’s paradise.

5. Paros

- Paros on Google Maps
- Best Couples Hotels in Paros: Yria Island • Calme Boutique Hotel • Seesoo Paros
Paros is a diversified island with several different and unique sandy beaches as well as some of Greece’s greatest restaurants and tavernas. It is an island that many Greeks also prefer, which tells a lot about the island.

6. Skiathos

- Skiathos on Google Maps
- Best Couples Hotels in Skiathos: Avaton Hotel • Aegean Suites • Kassandra Bay
Skiathos is a Greek island located on the northern part of the Cyclades islands group, with many direct flights available during the summer months from outside of Greece (high season).
Skiathos, in my opinion, is the ideal size for a couple’s vacation, with a serene ambience and a generally relaxing atmosphere.

7. Corfu

- Corfu on Google Maps
- Best Couples Hotels in Corfu: Corfu Imperial Grecotel • Bella Venezia • Lena Mare Boutique Hotel
Corfu is on the western side of Greece in the Ionian Islands between Greece and Italy. There are tens of direct flights to choose from to all major European cities during the summer (May to October usually), and it’s an island known for its green landscape and its quiet beaches.
Corfu town is a lovely town with Venetian architecture, with lots of options for food and entertainment after a long day at the beach.

8. Amorgos

- Amorgos on Google Maps
- Best Couples Hotels in Amorgos: Aegialis Hotel & Spa • Vigla Hotel • Yperia Hotel (see my full Amorgos hotels guide)
- Best Things to Do for Couples in Amorgos: Hozoviotissa Monastery • Chora sunset walk • Agia Anna Beach • Mouros sea caves
Amorgos is the island I would pick for couples who want a wilder, quieter version of the Cyclades. It does not have Santorini’s polished hotel scene or Mykonos-level nightlife, and that is exactly the point. You come here for the dramatic Hozoviotissa Monastery, the whitewashed Chora, long swims in clear water, and slow dinners in Aegiali or Katapola after a day of exploring.
Amorgos is especially good if you enjoy hiking, small villages, and beaches that feel more natural than organized. Start with my guide on where to stay in Amorgos because the island has two ferry ports and a few very different bases. Then plan time for the best beaches in Amorgos, especially Agia Anna, Mouros, and Agios Pavlos, and check how to get from Athens to Amorgos before you lock in your route.

9. Folegandros

Folegandros is one of the most romantic small islands in the Cyclades, with a cliffside Chora, quiet beaches, and amazing sunset walks.
- Folegandros on Google Maps
- Best Couples Hotels in Folegandros: Provalma Hotel • Themonies Luxury Suites • Anemi Folegandros (see my full Folegandros hotels guide)
- Best Things to Do for Couples in Folegandros: Chora sunset walk • Panagia Church hike • Katergo Beach • dinner in Ano Meria
Folegandros is perfect for couples who love the cliffside feeling of Santorini but want something smaller, slower, and much less crowded. The island’s Chora is one of the most beautiful villages in the Cyclades, with tiny squares, whitewashed alleys, and lovely tavernas where you can spend the whole evening without needing a plan.
The best part of Folegandros is that it still feels honest. You can hike up to the Church of Panagia for sunset, take a boat or hike to Katergo Beach, swim at Agali, and then return to Chora for dinner. It also works well as a quieter add-on after Santorini, though I would not treat it as a rushed day trip. Read my guide to the best Greek islands near Santorini and check the Greek island ferry routes before planning the route.

- Koufonisia on Google Maps
- Best Couples Hotels in Koufonisia: Aeris Suites Pori • Windmill Villa • Oceanides Residence (see my full Koufonisia hotels guide)
- Best Things to Do for Couples in Koufonisia: Pori Beach • Finikas Beach • coastal walk from Chora • boat to Kato Koufonisi
Koufonisia is probably the most relaxing island on this list. It is tiny, simple, and made for couples who want to walk from beach to beach, swim in bright blue water, eat seafood, and forget about cars for a few days. This is not the island for endless activities or luxury resort energy, but that is exactly why it feels so romantic.
The island belongs to the Small Cyclades, and the whole point is slow living. Stay around Chora if you want restaurants, cafes, and the port close by, or look near Pori Beach if you want more peace. Koufonisia also deserves a place in my guide to the best Greek islands for beaches, because Pori, Finikas, Fanos, Italida, and Megali Ammos are exactly the kind of beaches couples dream about when planning a Greek island escape.

- Skopelos on Google Maps
- Best Couples Hotels in Skopelos: Natura Luxury Boutique Hotel • Aegean Wave Faros • Adrina Resort (see my full Skopelos hotels guide)
- Best Things to Do for Couples in Skopelos: Skopelos Town • Panormos Beach • Glossa sunset • Agios Ioannis “Mamma Mia” Chapel
The main thing to know is that Skopelos has no airport, so most couples fly into Skiathos and take a ferry across. Before booking, read my best hotels in Skopelos guide and, if you are building a Sporades route, compare it with Skiathos and Alonissos. A car is useful here, especially if you want beaches, the chapel, and quieter villages without being tied to the bus timetable.

If you want a more romantic and relaxing atmosphere, go to Crete, Skiathos, or Milos. My personal favourite is Milos as it’s a very calm island with lots of things to do and, as always, amazing food!FAQs
Where is the best place in Greece for couples??
Crete is always one of the top destinations in Greece, and it’s great for couples who may want to explore a large and diverse island with amazing food. On the other hand, the smaller and less famous islands of Amorgos, Folegandros, Kythera, or even the deserted group of the islands of Koufonisia can be great romantic gateways for those looking to be more adventurous. For those looking to differentiate, mainland Greece has some very romantic places, such as Nafplio town, Mani area in Peloponnese, Parga, Mount Pelion, or even Athens can be great for a couple visiting Greece.
Which is the prettiest and quietest Greek island??
The prettiest and quietest Greek island is Paxos in the Ionian Sea, on the west side of Greece. But Koufonisia, Irakleia, Kasos, Symi, and Ithaca are all small, quiet island paradises that are ideal for couples wanting to get off the grid.
Is Santorini or Mykonos better for couples?
Santorini is a million times better for couples, and there is no doubt about it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND VISITING MYKONOS AS A COUPLE!⚠️ Nowadays, Mykonos is a rich kids’ playground and an Instagram influencers’ paradise where everything is extremely expensive.
You don’t get enough value for your money, and although the island is beautiful, the people visiting it don’t make it a good choice. If staying in a cave hotel in Greece is what you are looking for, I recommend you pick Santorini over Mykonos, as it has so many more. Also, Santorini is a more diverse island with lots of different things for couples to do.
Is Mykonos good for couples?
No, Mykonos is not good for couples as it is extremely expensive, everything feels so VIP, and the whole island is focused on making celebrities and jet-set influencers happy with continuous partying 24’7 during the summer. There doesn’t seem to be much left for…regular humans. Don’t get me wrong: Mykonos is a very beautiful island with extremely beautiful beaches, but I don’t believe it’s the romantic getaway you might be looking for.
