But you should also know in general that apart from Santorini, you can have your whole honeymoon in Greece and easily have the time of your life! Greece is not only about Santorini, and there are probably lots of other Greek islands that are equally (but less touristic and expensive than) Santorini.
The great thing about Santorini, however, is that apart from being a ridiculously romantic island and landscape, it also has so many diverse things to do and see with your other half that you won’t get bored at all.

Where to Stay for a Honeymoon in Santorini?

In my opinion, the best area to stay for a Santorini honeymoon is Imerovigli; not Oia or Fira.
I am pretty sure you were probably thinking of staying in Oia or Fira for your honeymoon, but I wouldn’t stay in Oia or Fira, for a lot of reasons.
The main reason though, is that Oia and Fira (which are undoubtedly both magical and extremely romantic places) are super crowded after 5 pm and every night, from early May till late October (this is considered the “high season” in Santorini). In Oia, you will have hordes of tourists on your doorstep every day and night, and because of the way Oia and Fira are built, there is nothing blocking people from stepping on your property or your terrace and having a look at what is going on there.
This is not happening everywhere, and there are some secluded and private hotels, but in general, both Fira and Oia have become very crowded places in the last few years.

Here are all the benefits of staying at Imerovigli for your honeymoon:
- Imerovigli (compared to Oia for example) is not very far away from where all the buzz is (Fira). You can walk from Imerovigli to Fira (20 minutes walk), take the local bus, or get a taxi. If you are staying in Oia, you need a 25-minute drive to get to Fira and more than 40 minutes drive to reach the beaches, which can be more tiring in the end
- Imerovigli is pretty close to the best wineries on the island (about a 10-minute drive)
- Imerovigli has equally amazing views of the caldera, the volcano, and the famous Santorini sunsets
- Imerovigli has the most romantic and luxurious hotels in Santorini, and there is even more added to that list every year
Best Honeymoon Hotels in Oia:
- Andronis Luxury Suites – (one of the most romantic restaurants in the world)
- Canaves Oia Suites & Spa – ( 5* luxury and service)
- Charisma Suites – (with a private cave jacuzzi !)
- Katikies Hotel – (amazing Oia sunsets from your doorstep)
- Mystique Hotel Santorini – (with elegant and minimal design)
How to Book Your Honeymoon in Santorini?
I should warn you here, that travel agents from all over the world are marketing out exclusive Santorini honeymoon packages that are costing a small fortune, where in reality the only thing they offer is a few nights in one of the hotels (that they have already agreed good commissions and are not necessarily the best) along with (possibly) a transfer from the airport to your hotel room and maybe a guided tour or so (along with some chocolates and a glass of champagne on arrival…).

I never understood the honeymoon or wedding tax on everything. This is not good for your well-earned money or the time you will spend during your honeymoon in Santorini.
There is a better way of doing this! For your Santorini Honeymoon Accommodation: head over to the largest hotel website in the world (Booking.com) and go through all the verified reviews, pick your hotel room at the best available rates, do your research, and don’t let a travel agent pick a hotel for you.
Since you will be looking for a hotel that is highly in demand (yes…the ones at Imerovigli are!), then you should book your honeymoon hotel at least 1 year in advance to make sure you get the best rooms, at the best rates, on the dates you want.

If everything is booked, then it is because you are probably a bit late in the game… try to book for May, June, September, or October.
You should probably forget July and August at that stage… In my opinion, September and June are equally amazing in Santorini, with fewer tourists on the island, and the weather is still very good and summery.
You can find all the details of the rooms and the honeymoon suites with detailed pictures on Booking.com, but as always in these cases, if you have specific questions like “What is the view of the room?” etc, it is always good to contact the hotel directly.Santorini Honeymoon Flights and Ferries
Unfortunately, there are no direct flights to Santorini outside of Europe, and these only exist during the high season (May-October).
So, the next best thing you can do is basically fly directly to Athens (the capital of Greece) and then take either a 40mins direct domestic flight to Santorini or a 5-hour ferry.

Regarding the flights, I have always found out that usually, Booking.com Flights usually has all the options (JTR is the airport code for Santorini).
There are direct flights from all the major capitals in Europe, and the flight from anywhere in Europe to Santorini takes between 2-4 hrs, depending on where you are flying. I always advise people to take a second flight to reach Santorini (instead of a ferry) but you might also want to take a ferry from Athens to Santorini (give this a good read!).If you want to check out the ferries to Santorini then the Ferryhopper Website is your best bet as they cover all the available options.
How to Get From Santorini Airport to your Hotel
Unfortunately, there is no UBER or Lyft in Santorini so you have to take the local bus (check the Santorini bus timetables) or you can take a Santorini taxi (they are grey/silver).
Chances are that both of these options will be waiting for you outside the airport, so you don’t have to worry that much.

The taxi can obviously take you anywhere on the island but the local bus will only take you to Fira which is the capital and then you have to change buses and take the next one that goes to your destination (if Imerovigli is your destination then I recommend you just take a taxi to take you there, as you will probably be too tired for a second bus and the last thing after a long flight is to wait at a bus station…).
Another option is to ask your hotel if they have a shuttle bus that can take you from the Airport to your hotel. This is a good option, but not every hotel does it, and some of them charge a lot of money, where in reality you shouldn’t pay more than 30 euros (if you are going, let’s say to Oia, which is the farthest town from the airport).
But in my opinion, the best thing you can do in Santorini is actually to rent a car outside of the airport so that you will be independent and you will get the opportunity to explore the island in the best possible way.
This is what I advise everyone who is visiting Santorini. The Most Romantic Restaurants in Santorini
Having dinner under the stars, eating amazing Greek food, drinking local Santorini wine, and overlooking the incredible Santorini volcano and the caldera is one of the most romantic things you can actually do during your honeymoon in Santorini.
There is no lack of amazing restaurants on the island (these are overall the best restaurants on the island), but there are some that are particularly unique, offering an amazing set along with exceptionally good food inspired by the delicious Greek cuisine.
