The stunning pool views of Onar Hotel in Patmos can be your daily dose of calmness
The Best Hotels in Patmos are mostly located in Patmos Town or in the villages of Grikos, Petra or Skala, but there are nice hotels all over the island. Patmos is one of the holiest places for Christians as it is where John of Patmos received the visuals for the Book of Revelation and where the book was actually written. Today, Patmos is one of the most elegant yet quiet greek islands with exceptional hotels and vibes overall.

Patmos belongs to the Dodecanese group of islands in southeastern Greece, and it’s one of the smallest greek islands (it’s about half the size of Santorini). The island has maintained a very family-friendly and quiet vibe overall, but it is also visited by wealthy yacht owners, and it has a vibrant sailing tourism every summer.
Patmos island is quite far from Athens, and you can only reach it by ferry as it doesn’t have an airport. You can either take the direct 8-hour ferry from Piraeus or, even better (and probably faster), just take a 1-hour flight from Athens to Samos or Kos and then take a 1-hour ferry to Patmos (always check Ferryhopper for the latest ferry schedules and Booking.com Flights for the most up-to-date flights to Greek islands).
I honestly believe you don’t need a car in Patmos because the island is tiny. Local buses in Patmos are (surprisingly) good, frequent and will take you everywhere on the island, so you will be ok without a car. However, as always on greek islands, you will be a million times more flexible if you have your own means of transportation.
