My advice though is this: if you rent a family villa in Greece make sure you are close to a large town or close to the beach. There are many villas that may look great in the pictures on booking.com but in reality they are in the middle of nowhere, up in the mountains and I don’t think this is good if you have children in my opinion. You need to be close to shops, amenities and generally “civilization” for emergency cases and for the flexibility and helpfulness you need in general, when you are travelling with kids. Staying somewhere really remote is not wise, in my opinion.

However, you will definitely need a car in Crete so location doesn’t really matter (but I would rather personally stay in a villa with sea views, to be honest).

I believe that the best family villas in Greece are in Crete but there are amazing holiday villas anywhere in Greece and even on mainland Greece. To be totally honest, as long as you make sure you are close to a beach (which is not very difficult to guarantee in Greece…) you are going to have amazing views and being meters away from the best playground for kids (aka a sandy beach). It is also very important to make sure you understand completely what the actual hosts are offering and if catering and meals are included, as in some of these villas you can in fact have meals catered.
