The place you will be staying in Corfu can really make or break your holidays on this magical green Greek island as you will find out that there are quite a lot of differences between the different areas and places to stay (and many similarities as well).
Corfu is a beautiful island on the west side of Greece in the Ionian Sea that has been shaped by the clash of different civilizations that ruled the region for centuries and this diversity in my opinion is what makes the island extremely fascinating.

Which is the best area to stay in Corfu?
The best area to stay in Corfu is undoubtedly the north part of the island as it has most of the best resort towns and the best beaches of the island. If you are looking for more quiet areas and town though you should take a look at places such as Liapades and Mesongi and try to avoid Sidari and Kavos.
Where should I stay in Corfu for the first time?
If you are visiting Corfu for the first time, you should stay at Corfu Town or anywhere around it to be honest, because you need to be close to this marvellous old town as it has so much to explore. I do not recommend staying in Kavos (unless you are 18 and want to drink all day) or even in Sidari because you will be missing a lot from the island. My advice though is to rent a car for a few days and drive around the island. If you are mostly interested in beaches then Acharavi or Glyfada on the west side of the island would be ideal for you.

1. Best Place To Stay In Corfu (overall)
Alternatively, if you are looking to stay in one of the cutest old towns in Europe then you should stay in Corfu Town.
The best towns to stay on the island are Corfu Town (the capital of the island and a greek modern city), Gouvia (lots of amenities and perfect for families), Dassia (beautiful beaches along with a nice beach), Acharavi (the largest beach on the island, Paleokastritsa (a natural wonder) and Glyfada (a locals favourite beach) beach towns.

- Best Hotel in Paleokastritsa: Akrotiri Beach Resort
- Best Hotel in Gouvia: Art Hotel Debono
- Best Hotel in Acharavi: Grecotel LUXME
- Best Hotel in Dassia: TRYP
- Best Hotel in Sidari: Akron Seascape
- Best Hotel in Ipsos: Rodostamo
- Best Hotel in Kavos: Scirocco
2. Best Place For Families
Being a father to 2 beautiful (but cheeky) daughters I know a thing or two about what can make a great family holiday and I can tell you that there is no better playground in the world than a beautiful sandy (or even pebbly) beach.
So if you are really looking for a great family place to stay in Corfu then I highly recommend you stay as close to a beach as possible. Great family resort towns in Corfu are:
Corfu is one of the best greek islands for families with its great infrastructure, amenities, restaurants, family-friendly hotels and beautiful long and wide beaches. There is also an International Aiport on the island that offers direct flights from (and to) pretty much all major European Cities.
Here are some of the best family hotels in Corfu:
- Best Family Hotel in Paleokastritsa: Akrotiri Beach Resort
- Best Family Hotel in Glyfada: Art Hotel Debono
- Best Family Hotel in Acharavi: Grecotel LUXME
- Best Family Hotel in Dassia: TRYP
- Best Family Hotel in Liapades: Corfu Pearl
- Best Family Hotel in Agios Gordios: Sea Breeze
I also highly suggest that you avoid resort towns such as Kavos and Sidari as they become party towns in the nights (and day). I wouldn’t want to spend a family holiday with my kids next to drunk 19 year olds (been there done that though).
3. Best Place for Couples in Corfu
In my opinion, Corfu is one of the best greek islands for a couples holiday (any age).
Make no mistake, this place is both romantic and adventurous.
Seclusive but also full of energy and with a million things to see and do.
But when you are researching all the different areas to stay in Corfu the amount of information might be confusing for most people.
I truly believe that accommodation is the A and Z for a great couples holiday in Corfu.
You donβt really want to be close to nightclubs and crazy parties (though you can certainly visit someβ¦) that happen in Kavos or Sidari.
In my opinion, Paleokastritsa is the best place for a couples holiday in Corfu but I would also consider Corfu Old Town too as it’s a very unique town literally resembling Venice in many ways.
In Paleokastritsa, you will be in a small green and turquoise paradise full of things to do and explore . You can even rent a boat and explore the nearby hidden beaches and coves.
On the other hand, Corfu Old Town with its cute alleys and hidden restaurants and cafes can be a great spot to base your holidays as you can literally explore the whole island from there.
- Best Hotel in Corfu Town: Corfu Palace Hotel
- Best Hotel in Paleokastritsa: Akrotiri Beach Resort
4. Best Place for Nightlife
People say that Corfu can be a party island but that is true only in Kavos mainly and Sidari (in a smaller scale though).
To be honest, when it comes to nightlife in Corfu It really depends on what kind of nightlife you are looking for.
In my view, the best nightlife of the island is actually in Corfu town with great bars, wines bars, cocktail bars and even nightclubs where even locals spend their night.
On the other hand in Kavos and in Sidari you will mostly find nightclubs that cater to 18-25 year olds looking for a cheap drink to get wasted. There is nothing wrong with that (we have all been 19 at some point…) but Kavos is only that, so you should better avoid it if you are not into that.
Corfu Town has some excellent nightlife options in my opinion, much more elegant and fun in many ways with places such as Brofessor, Dell’Acque, Boite and Pecorino.
- Best Hotel in Corfu Town: Corfu Palace Hotel
- Best Hotel in Kavos: Scirocco
- Best Hotel in Sidari: Akron Seascape
5. Best Place for Beach
If you are mainly visiting Corfu for the beach life then you won’t be disappointed as the island has a long list of diverse beaches nested in pebbly and rocky bays or with golden smooth and fine sand.
I honestly believe that Corfu has the best beaches of any greek island (ok maybe except from Crete) as there is so much variety and diversity to them that is truly unmatched on any other island.
The best beach towns in Corfu are:
There are just so many wonderful beaches on the island that would be a shame if you won’t visit at least some of them and the best way to do just that would be to rent a car for a few days, to explore the island in the most flexible way.
6. Best Place Without A Car
If driving a car is not your thing (which I totally get even though I am just suggesting to everyone visiting a Greek island that this is literally the best thing they can do in their holidays in Greece), then you should definitely stay in Corfu Town, so that you are close to the main bus terminal of the KTEL Buses.
KTEL Kerkyras (their official name) website
You can definitely stay elsewhere, too, but you will be limited to that area mostly (which is also fine). If it is your first time in Corfu though you might be tempted to explore it a bit more.
CONCLUSION
So, there are the best places to stay in Corfu!
Always have in mind that Corfu is a pretty big greek island and it would take time to go from one town to another.
The best area to stay if you are a couple and you want to enjoy the beautiful paradise-like scenery then you should definitely stay in or around Paleokastritsa but if you are looking to explore the island you could also stay close or near Corfu town in areas such Gouvies, Komeno or even the old town itself.
If you are visiting Corfu with your kids then the best thing you can do is to stay closer to any beach and then visit other areas if you want to.
The kids will always enjoy the beach more than anything else.
The best area to stay with the kids is Acharavi, Agios Gordios and even Glyfada ( a local’s favourite beach)
As a final note, always remember to book your accommodation at least 6 months in advance, as most hotels sell out quickly every year!
