11 Best Santorini Beaches

Updated On:

Written By: Pavlos Inglesis

This is my video of the best beaches in Santorini with a ton of information and beautiful drone footage for all of them

Ammoudi, Kamari, Perivolos, Perissa and the unique Red Beach are some of the best beaches of Santorini, but these are not the only ones. Santorini’s beaches are mostly covered in black pebbles, white or black thick sand and they are  well organized with lots of amenities and things to do. There are also some really good beach bars in Santorini that you should definitely visit while on the beaches of Perissa, Perivolos or Kamari and Red Beach.

BEST BEACH HOTEL IN SANTORINI: Petri Suites

BUT ALSO CHECK:

The crystal clear turquoise water will be one of the most impressive things you will notice if you swim (ideally between June-October as this is when the waters will be warm enough) and this by itself can be one of the highlights of your trip to Greece. It’s not a secret that Santorini has some of the best beaches in Greece for any situation: families, young cou0les, seniors, honeymooners or even solo travellers.

Get my secrets for Greece and Santorini in your email!

To be 100% honest with you, Santorini is not a greek island famous for its beaches, and I truly believe other greek islands (e.g. Mykonos, Crete, Rhodes, Naxos, Paros, Ios etc) have much better golden sand beaches.

BEST SANTORINI BEACHES

The best beaches in Santorini are:

If you are wondering which one is better Mykonos or Santorini , then as far as beaches are concerned, then Mykonos beaches are 100 times better in my opinion.

But Santorini’s beaches have their own charm with their unique geological formations and the cute black or white pebbles (which can become super hot in the summer so be careful…).

Moreover, most of them are very well organised with plenty of opportunities for water sports fans.

VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW:

  • When You Can Actually Swim in the Sea Water: the sea water is perfect in Santorini between June-October (and including these 2 months), so if you are visiting anytime outside of these months you may get sunshine and 30C degrees temperature but the sea water won’t be warm enough; you can certainly give it a try though!

  • Caldera Views: unfortunately when you are on one of the beaches in Santorini, you won’t be able to see the famous caldera and volcano views that Santorini is famous for, as these are on the cliff where there is no beach (higher level) ; you can have only one of the two: famous views or beach life!

  • Best Beach of Santorini: Perivolos & Perissa (they are basically the same long 4km beach) – also known as Black Beach

  • Best Beach for Families and kids: Kamari (with lots of amenities for kids) – also a black pebbles beach

  • Most unique Beach of Santorini: Red Beach (but not ideal for swimming cause as it’s very narrow and it can be very crowded) – it is also considered dangerous as rocks have been reported falling from the cliff, quite frequently

  • Best Nudist Beach of Santorini: Koloumbos and Vourvoulos

  • Most Romantic Beach of Santorini: Vlychada and Eros Beach

  • Best Beach Bars of Santorini: in Perissa

  • Greek islands with better beaches than Santorini: Mykonos, Naxos, Crete, Milos, Paros (mostly with golden sandy beaches)

1. Perissa Beach (aka “Black Beach”)

perissa beach santorini
Perissa beach with its famous black sand and black pebbles. You can rent those sand beds for about 5-10 euros per day.

Perissa Beach info

Perissa and Perivolos (Agios Georgios) are basically the same long beach.

Perissa is basically the end of the long black sand beach of Perivolos. It’s undoubtedly the busiest and the most organised beach on Santorini.

Crystal clear waters, black pebbles, amazing atmosphere, relaxing couches, lounge music and lots of sun-beds where you can relax for the whole day.

Perissa is also the place to visit if you want to listen to some famous DJs from all over the world, it’s the beach to play beach volleyball and definitely the place to drink some amazing cocktails by the beach.

In Perissa, you can also do all the water sports you can imagine (jet ski, sea-ski, sea-bananas etc). This is also the beach where you will find the most locals, greek tourists and even celebrities hanging out.

Here is an amazing video showing how Perissa beach looks like:

Perissa Beach on Google Maps

How to get to Perissa Beach

It’s really simple to go to Perissa and Perivolos.

It’s about 15km from Fira and there is also a regular bus service that runs every 30mins during the summer months (check the Santorini Local Bus Schedules).

A taxi from Fira should not charge you more than 20 euros for such a trip.

If you have a car, (best website to book a car for Santorini is Rentalcars.com), just take the road to Emporio village from Fira and follow the signs. They are everywhere!

Best Hotels in Perissa Beach

The great thing about staying close to the beach is that you will pay significantly less money than staying at a hotel with caldera views. Hotels in Perissa, Kamari and Perivolos beaches are definitely cheaper without lacking in quality or amenities though. This is very important to have in mind when choosing the best area to stay in Santorini, as this might actually be the one for your budget.

These are the best hotels in Perissa:

  • Kouros Village Hotel Literally sitting on the beach of Perissa, this hotel has a big relaxing pool, delicious breakfasts and great service.
  • Anastasia Princess Luxury Hotel: One of the most famous hotels of Perissa, meters away from the beach with an impressive swimming pool. Perfect for kids and families!

☀️☀️MY TIP FOR PERISSA BEACH☀️☀️

Perissa is the home of some of the best beach bars in Greece so make sure you visit them while you are there. While some of them organize parties with famous DJ’s from all over the world, they are mostly very chilled out and relaxing places.

The best beach bars in Perissa are:

  • Tranquilo (for yummy vegeterian dishes)
  • Waves (amazing cocktails and sunbeds)

Also, the other important thing about Perissa beach (and all black sand beaches of Santorini), is that you have to wear shoes or flip flops during the summer months because the black sand and pebbles become so hot they can seriously burn your feet!

2. Kamari Beach (aka “Black Beach”)

kamari beach santorini
Kamari beach is the most family friendly place on Santorini with lots of amenities, restaurants, cafes and hotels around

Kamari Beach info

Kamari is one of the most famous and easily accessible beaches of Santorini.

It is a pretty long beach with black sand and pebbles with lots of sunbeds and umbrellas.

Kamari beach is the best beach to visit with kids or seniors and it is the most family friendly location of Santorini.

It is very well organized and some might consider it very touristic, but it is a great beach after all with awesome diving opportunities from the rock that overlooks the beach on your right-hand side as you look at the sea.

You will find all sorts of beach bars, tavernas, restaurants and cafes.

Here is a great video showing Kamari Beach:

Kamari Beach on Google Maps

How to get to Kamari Beach

It’s really easy to go to Kamari Beach, as long as Fira is your main hub (if you don’t have your own means of transportation).

It’s about 10km from Fira and there is a regular local bus service that runs every 30mins during the summer months (check the Santorini Local Bus Schedules).

A taxi from Fira to Kamari should not charge you more than 20 euros for such a trip.

If you have a car, (best website to book a car for Santorini is Rentalcars.com), just take the road to the airport from Fira and follow the signs. To the way there, you will pass through some impressive wineries too. The trip is 10-15mins from Fira.

Best Hotels in Kamari

Kamari has some really impressive new hotels and (mainly) beach private villas that you can rent. And as always, because you will be staying to one of Santorini’s beaches and not paying for the famous views, you will actually be getting more for what you pay (compared to Fira, Oia, Imerovigli, Firostefani etc)

These are the best hotels in Kamari:

  • Santorini Crystal Blue An impressive apart-hotel with lovely terraces that sit on the black sand beach.
  • Cavo Bianco: Possibly the best swimming pool in Kamari at an impressive boutique hotel with awesome private jacuzzis.
  • Eolia Kamari Villa: Easily the best villa in Kamari and the perfect accommodation for families with kids

☀️☀️MY TIP FOR KAMARI BEACH☀️☀️

You can obviously spend the whole day at Kamari beach, drinking cocktails, relaxing, sunbathing and swimming. But when the sun sets, you will start feeling the romance in the air and it is probably the time for you and your other half to enjoy a movie under the stars at Kamari Open Air Cinema which is easily one of the best things to do in Santorini.

3. Perivolos Beach

Perivolos beach is basically the extension of Perissa beach and it has the same amount of facilities and amenities but it’s less crowded

Perivolos Beach info

Perivolos beach is basically the extension of Perissa beach (or the other way around…) and it’s part of the famous long black beach of Santorini.

Perivolos has some really amazing luxury hotels but obviously without the famous Santorini caldera views, as they are basically on the beach. But for many people, this is the best beach in Santorini, without a doubt.

Read Also: Where to Stay in Santorini

Many people who travel to Santorini in July or August prefer to stay at Perivolos instead of Perissa, as it can be slightly more quiet and relaxing since it is a bit further away from the crowds of beach bars and restaurants of Perissa.

Perivolos is a beautiful wide sandy beach (with black sand and pebbles) with crystal clear waters and lots of sunbeds to relax or read a book.

Here is a video showing what is actually happening on Perivolos in the summertime:

Perivolos beach on Google Maps

How to get to Perivolos Beach

The way to Perivolos beach is basically the same as the way to Perissa as they are literally the same long beach.

It’s about 10km from Fira and the local bus service that runs every 30mins during the summer months will take you there with 1.80 euros (check the Santorini Local Bus Schedules).

There is a different bus stop to Perissa and a different one for Perivolos, but in reality you can even walk through the beach to each other.

A taxi from Fira to Perivolos should not charge you more than 20 euros for such a trip.

If you have a car  (best website to book a car for Santorini is Rentalcars.com), just take the road to the airport from Fira and follow the signs to Perissa and Perivolos. The trip is 10-15mins from Fira.

Best Hotels in Perivolos

Perivolos has many new hotels and as with every other beach hotel in Santorini you will be getting more for what you pay becasue you are basicaly be missing the famous and very touristic viewx of Imerovigli, Fira and Oia.

These are the best hotels in Perivolos:

  • Santo Miramare Beach Resort : One of the best overall resorts in Santorini, with its own sunbeds on the beach and an impressive swimming pool.
  • Istoria: One of the most well designed hotels of the island with attention to detail.
  • Orabel Suites Santorini: Possibly the best beach hotel of the island with amazing service and 5 star luxury

☀️☀️MY TIP FOR PERIVOLOS BEACH☀️☀️

Perivolos is the same beach as Perissa but it’s more quiet and the perfect location if you want to relax but still be close to lots of restaurants and beach bars (walking distance). It is ideal for kids as they can literally spend a whole day on the beach and be super happy!

4. Vlychada Beach

vlychada beach santorini
Vlychada beach is surrounded by moon-like white rocks

Vlychada Beach Info

Vlychada beach is a unique landscape with massive white rocks and a really relaxing atmosphere.

The beach is so big that you will never find it packed with people and there is always space for everyone.

You won’t find any noisy beach bars or watersports here though. The beach itself is organised with umbrellas and sun-beds (not free though…).

At the end of the beach, you will notice the chimneys of an old factory which is now the Santorini Tomato Museum (a really good spot for photography lovers…set these DSLRs on fire!),

Next to the beach there is also a very nice small fishing port with a few restaurants where you can have fresh fish and seafood.

Here is a great video showing Vlychada Beach and its raw beauty:

Vlychada Beach on Google Maps

How to Get to Vlychada Beach

You can only go to Vlychaa beach if you own your own means of transportation or you get a taxi.

There are plenty of signs everywhere from Fira but it’s basically the same road that goes to Akrotiri. You will see a sign on your right hand side where it leads to both Vlychada and Eros beaches.

A taxi from Fira to Vlychada should not charge you more than 15 euros for such a trip.

Best Hotels in Vlychada

Even though Vlychada is a bit off the beaten path it has some really awesome hotels and it can really be one of the places to stay if you want to avoid completely any touristic areas. But remember: renting a car is highly recommended if you choose to stay in Vlychada.

These are the best hotels in Vlychada:

  • Notos Thermae Spa One of the best spas of the island built on the top of the cliff of Vlychada looking at the small fishing harbour
  • Du Soleil Home: A villa with cycladic design built on top of the Vlychada cliff overlooking the beach.
  • Cellaria Estate Villa: An impressive 5000sq.ft villa for 10 persons with a massive pool for…celebrity style holidays!

☀️☀️ MY TIP FOR VLYCHADA BEACH ☀️☀️

Vlychada is a very relaxing beach without any busy beach bars and cafes. That means, it will always be good if you bring your own food and drinks but there is also a beach canteen with lots of sunbeds.

5. Red Beach

red beach santorini
Red beach is surrounded by volcanic red rocks

Red Beach Info

Red Beach is arguably one of the most famous and unique beaches in Santorini.

It’s pretty obvious why it is called The Red Beach”.

The volcanic lava red rocks, red pebbles and red sand that surround the crystal clear sea waters, create an amazing scenery that you cannot find anywhere in the world.

However, it’s a very narrow beach and if you will be there in July or August expect it to be crowded.

It is indeed a unique landscape with amazing colors but not a terrain for flip flops as the path to get there is quite steep, narrow and rough:

Here is a great video showing the Red Beach and the path to reach it:

Red Beach on Google Maps

How to Get to the Red Beach:

If you want to reach the red beach then prepare yourself for some hiking through the red rocks that lead to the beach.

When reaching the archaeological site of Akrotiri, turn on the right, park in front of the chapel of Agios Nikolaos and continue on foot (no flip flops!).

You can also take a boat from the archaeological site Rahidi to the Red Beach, that runs every half an hour and costs 5€.

The Santorini bus from Fira to the Red Beach is basically the one that goes to Akrotiri.

A taxi from Fira to Akrotiri (and then the Red Beach) should not charge you more than 25 euros for such a trip.

Read Also: How To Get Around in Santorini

Best Hotels in Red Beach

Red Beach itself is not a place where you’d find any hotels but Akrotiri (which IS the town just next to the red beach) has been developed extensively the last 5 years with new amazing hotels popping up every year.

Some of the most impressive private villas of the island are also located in Akrotiri (like Adelante Villas 88)

These are the best hotels in Akrotiri:

  • Phos The Boutique Celebrity level hotel with amazing private plunge pools and high quality service
  • Acroterra Rossa: A 5-star hotel with one of the most impressive swimming pools on Santorini; breakfast and meals are top class too!
  • Black Diamond Suites: Beautiful and cute little whitewashed villas with amazing private hot tubs on your balcony

☀️☀️ MY TIP FOR THE RED BEACH ☀️☀️

If you research on the internet you will probably find many reports saying that Red Beach is dangerous and you shouldn’t visit it because there have been cases of falling rocks etc. Truth is that once on the beach you will notice that the area of the beach which is close to the red rocks is actually barricated in order to protect people from any debris. But in any case…be careful!  Also, Red beach is ideal  for snorkeling ! The geological formations provide an amazing and colourful sea bottom that could surprise you!

6. Koloumbos Beach

koloumpos beach santorini
Koloumbos is one of the most secluded and less touristic beaches on Santorini, but you need a car to visit it

Koloumbos Beach Info

Koloumbos Beach is one of the longest, most seclusive and quiet beaches in Santorini.

It is also the only nudist-friendly beach in Santorini , where you can literally have a big part of the beach for yourself.

So, it’s gonna be you, the rocks, the black pebbles and the amazing blue water, as not that many people actually swim at Koloumbos beach (even during the high season).

Koloumbos is the perfect place if you want to escape the tourist masses of Santorini and spend a relaxing and quiet day. It is far away from everything , though it is close to Oia (but quite far away from Fira).

Here is a video showing the beauty of Koloumbos or Columbos (and Cambia, a nearby beach):

Koloumbos Beach on Google Maps

How to get to Koloumbos Beach

Unfortunately, if you don’t have your own car or bike or quad , you cannot visit the Koloumbo beach as there are no local buses that can take you there.

You can take a taxi though.

A taxi from Fira to Koloumbos beach should not charge you more than 30 euros for such a trip.

Read Also: How To Get Around in Santorini

Best Hotels on Koloumbos Beach

There are very limited options to stay around Koloumbos beach and to be totaly honest with you Koloumbos might not be the place to stay if you want to visit Santorini.

The area you can stay closest to Koloumbos beach is basically Oia.

These are the best hotels in Oia:

  • Katikies Hotel: One of the most famous and most impressive hotels in Europe. Pictures speak for themselves…
  • Charisma Suites: Always included in the list with the best hotels in Oia and that’s for a very good reason as service is on top level.
  • Domus Solis Villa: The best private villa in Oia, hands down!

☀️☀️ MY TIP FOR KOLOUMBOS BEACH ☀️☀️

It’s not that there is anything wrong with Koloumbos beach, but bear in mind that it is a nudist-friendly beach which might not make it an attractive location for families and kids (unless you are totally fine with it)!

7. Katharos Beach

Katharos beach is one of the most relaxing beaches on Santorini (very close to Oia and Ammoudi)

Katharos Beach Info

Katharos Beach is another very quiet and totally not touristic beach of Santorini.

It is a small narrow beach with black and white pebbles under some massive white volcanic rocks. It’s a beach with wild beauty and raw charm.

Katharos is very close to Ammoudi and Oia in general and the sunsets from the beach are magical.

Here is a quick video showing the beauty of Katharos beach and its wild beauty:

Katharos Beach on Google Maps

How to Get to Katharos Beach

You can only reach Katharos beach mainly by car, bike or ATV from Oia or Ammoudi bay (it’s a 5 mins drive) but you can even walk from Ammoudi or Oia if you want to. It’s about 30mins walking distance from Oia and about te same from Ammoudi.

You can take a taxi though from Fira (this is where the main taxi hub of the island is).

A taxi from Fira to Katharos beach should not charge you more than 30 euros for such a trip.

Read Also: How To Get Around in Santorini

Best Hotels in Katharos Beach

Katharos beach is not a location full of hotels and resorts and it still stays as one of the most unspoiled areas of the island. However, if you want to be close to Katharos beach you’d better stay close to Oia.

The area you can stay closest to Koloumbos beach is basically Oia.

These are the best hotels in Oia and around Katharos beach:

  • Maregio SuitesPossibly the best hotel in Oia and one of the highest rated hotels in Greece.

☀️☀️ MY TIP FOR KATHAROS BEACH ☀️☀️

Katharos sunsets have now become more popular but there is still time to visit this amazing small beach. Once you arrive on the beach, you will easily see the only beach bar around which is the amazing Katharos Lounge. The vegeterian food these guys offer, along with the amazing views and the relaxing atmosphere the whole place has can easily be the highlight of your trip to Santorini, aways from the tourist masses.

8. Monolithos Beach

monolithos beach santorini
Monolithos beach is a long, wide and windy beach behind the airport that is also offering the best water sports opportunities like kite surfing

Monolithos Beach Info

Monolithos beach is a very long and wide beach which is pretty close to the airport (don’t worry…you won’t be disrupted by the airplanes).

It is a very kids and family-friendly beach with sunbeds and umbrellas, with a few tavernas and restaurants mainly with fresh fish.

The sand at Monolithos beach is possibly the best on the island and it is pretty similar to the one you will find in Kamari.

Monolithos is the best beach to try water sports and kite surfing and the guys at Santorini Kite are very serious about it.

Here is a quick video showing the beauty of Monolithos beach:

Monolithos Beach on Google Maps

How to Get to Monolithos Beach

You can reach Monolithos beach mainly by car, bike or ATV from from Fira, Kamari or even from Pyrgos.

You can also take the bus to the airport and then walk from the airport.

It’s not more than 20-25 mins walking distance from the airport.

But as always you can also take a taxi from Fira.

A taxi from Fira to Monolithos beach should not charge you more than 15 euros for such a trip.

Read Also: How To Get Around in Santorini

Best Hotels in Monolithos Beach

Monolithos beach is a quiet area with a few hotels and rooms to rent around. Nothing is very impressive though and the best you can actually do, is to stay closer or at Kamari which has many more options hotels-wise.

These are the best hotels at Kamari:

  • Santorini Crystal Blue : An impressive apart-hotel with lovely terraces that sit on the black sand beach.
  • Cavo Bianco: Possibly the best swimming pool in Kamari at an impressive boutique hotel with awesome private jacuzzis.
  • Eolia Kamari Villa: Easily the best villa in Kamari and the perfect accommodation for families with kids

☀️☀️ MY TIP FOR MONOLITHOS BEACH ☀️☀️

Monolithos beach is the best area for watersports on the island (Santorini Kite are some of the best kitesurfers in Greece!) . A day at Monolithos beach can be a great family day as well as the beach is well organized and very wide for kids to play around. Once you finish your swimming, make yourself a favour and eat fresh fish and seafood at Skaramagkas Tavern.

9. Ammoudi Bay

ammoudi bay santorini
Ammoudi bay is not really a beach but a small cute fishing bay with crystal blue waters and lots of red and black rocks for awesome diving!

Ammoudi Bay Info

Ammoudi is not really a beach but a small fishing village below Oia with amazing fish restaurants and some really cool red and black rocks for some cliff jumping.

It goes without saying that you won’t find any sunbeds or sand around. This makes Ammoudi not ideal for young kids or elder people for swimming (though the older ones will definitely appreciate cliff jumping from the rocks!).

But you don’t necessarily have to swim while at Ammoudi bay as you can just enjoy a dinner or a lunch at the magnificent fish restaurants at the edge of the small port.

Here is my video of Ammoudi Bay:

Ammoudi Bay on Google Maps

How to Get to Ammoudi Bay

it’s very easy to go to Ammoudi but unfortunately there is no bus that can take you there.

If you have a car you can just follow the signs from Oia. It’s only a 5 mins drive from Oia and there is a small parking at Ammoudi where you can park your bike, ATV or car.

If you don’t have a car then you have to take the local bus from Fira to Oia and then basically walk all the stairs/path from Oia down to the bottom and then all the way back up (that’s the difficult part…especially if you had eaten…).

You can also take a taxi either from Oia or directly from Fira.

A taxi from Fira to Ammoudi bay should not charge you more than 25 euros for such a trip.

Read Also: How To Get Around in Santorini

Best Hotels in Ammoudi Bay

There is only a handful of hotels at Ammoudi bay as most people actually stay on top of the cliff which is basically Oia…

If you really want to stay at Ammoudi Bay then these are the best hotels on that area:

  • Fisherman’s Nest This is exactly what its name say…an ex fisherman’s nest that has been transformed into a cute flat; a truly unique experience!
  • Amoudi Villas: This is the best accommodation you can actually find at Ammoudi. Beautiful small villas with amazing balconies and views of the picturesque bay.

☀️☀️ MY TIP FOR AMMOUDI BAY ☀️☀️

If you want to go from Oia to Ammoudi you will notice that the path/stairs that leads to the bay at sea level can actually be a bit tiring. However, please DO NOT RIDE THE DONKEYS THAT WILL BE OFFERED BY SOME PEOPLE TO TAKE YOU TO AMMOUDI. These poor animals are not treated very well under the heat of the greek summer and they are really suffering. By paying for this service you support this cruelty. Apart from this, please make yourself a favour and eat at Katina’s Fish tavern. Easily some of the best fish and seafood on the island…

10. Eros Beach

theros wave bar santorini eros beach
Eros beach is next to Vlychada and has one of the best beach bars of the island

Eros Beach Info

Eros beach is a bit difficult to reach and that makes it one of the most secluded and beautiful beaches of the island.

“Eros” means “love” in ancient greek…so you can totally understand why this is a also a secret wedding venue and a totally romantic place to be.

It has an extremely relaxing atmosphere and possibly the best beach lounge bar of the island: Theros Wave Bar.

This is how Eros beach and the beach bar in Vlychada, looks like:

Eros Beach on Google Maps

How to Get to Eros Beach

It is not very easy to go to Eros beach as you definitely need your own means of transportation and the road that leads there doesn’t have asphalt on it.

You should actually take the road that leads to Vlychada beach and at one point you will see a sign that will warn you to turn on the right for Eros Beach.

If you don’t have a car then you have to take the bus to Vlychada and then basically hike the rough road (not easy…)

You can also take a taxi either from Fira which should charge you about 25-30 euros (for the same price you can rent a car for a whole day…).

Read Also: How To Get Around in Santorini

Best Hotels in Eros Beach

There are no hotels around Eros Beach and hopefully it will stay like this forever, as any buildings around will definitely ruin the beauty of the scenery… instead you can try staying in Vlychada.

☀️☀️ MY TIP FOR EROS BEACH ☀️☀️

Though Theros Wave Bar is awesome and one of the most romantic places of the island, the place is not cheap. Expect to pay 20-40-60 euros for a pair of sunbeds during the high season and you only get to know that after you actually sit down, as there are no signs (the difference on the prices depends on how close you are from the sea water). however, you can always visit the beach the “greek style”: your own mobile sunbed, small freezer with drinks and fresh fruits and… away from the crowds!

11. Vourvoulos Beach

Vourvoulos is a very quiet and less touristic beach on the west side of the island (close to Monolithos beach)

Vourvoulos Beach Info

Vourvoulos beach is one of the most quiet beaches of the island and it is similar to Kolumbos and Monolithos beaches on the western side of the island.

Apart from a few restaurants behind the beach (very typical everywhere in Greece) and a small fishing port there is nothing else around.

The beach is definitely off the beaten path and to be honest you should only visit it if you have first visited all the other beaches on Santorini, as there is really nothing special about it.

This video shows how Vourvoulos looks like:

Vourvoulos Beach on Google Maps

How to Get to Vourvoulos Beach

If you really decide to visit Vourvoulos beach then you can only do so with your own car, bike or quad.

It a 15-20 mins drive from Fira.

You can also take a taxi from Fira which should charge you about 20 euros to take you to Vourvoulos.

Read Also: How To Get Around in Santorini

Best Hotels in Vourvoulos Beach

Vourvoulos is off the beaten path and doesn’t offer many choices for hotels. There are however some really impressive private villas you can stay at:

  • Anema ResidenceA collection of private villas with impressive views and a very homey feeling!
  • Heaven On Earth private Villa: Looking like it came out of the Mamma Mia movie set, this is an impressive private villa totally isolated from everything else on the island; ideal if you want to be alone in the middle of nowhere on an idyllic set…

☀️☀️ MY TIP FOR VOURVOULOS BEACH ☀️☀️

The best and only place to get something to eat at Vourvoulos is the small greek restaurant behond the beach called “To Limanaki“. Some people say they had the best food on the island on this Santorini beach…

CONCLUSION

So, these are best Santorini beaches: Perissa, Perivolos, Kamari, Red Beach, Ammoudi, Katharos, Vourvoulos, Vlychada, Eros beach, Koloumbos and Monolithos.

There is no doubt that Crete beaches and Mykonos beaches are a million times better but that’s Santorini…beaches are not her thing!

If you only have time for one beach, then visit Perissa beach as it is the beach that has everything and it is overall perfect for almost every situation: couples, solo travellers, honeymooners, families, kids and seniors (no steps at all). It is also very easy to reach with the local bus from Fira.

If you are visiting Santorini in the winter you won’t be able to swim between November-May as the seawater will be pretty cold for most people’s standards but in June, July, August, September and October the seawater is perfect and swimming in the sea is by far one of the best things to do in Santorini.
